Optical Genome Mapping in Hematologic Malignancies: Optimized Workflows to Uniquely Detect Cytogenomic Variants in Hematologic Malignancies

  • Date

    Wednesday, November 11, 2026

  • Time

    10:00 AM – 10:50 AM PST

  • Location

Tahoma 2, Level 3, Arch at 800 Pike

Optical genome mapping (OGM) has emerged as a transformative technology for comprehensive cytogenomic analysis in hematologic malignancies, enabling the detection of structural variants and complex genomic rearrangements that can be difficult to identify using traditional methods. Our speakers will explore how optimized OGM workflows are advancing genomic characterization of leukemias and other hematologic cancers, while improving laboratory efficiency and expanding access to clinically relevant insights.

Alex Hastie, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer at Bionano, will introduce OGM and review recent scientific, technological, and workflow advancements.

Following this introduction, Dr. Qing Wei, MD, PhD, from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will present her research evaluating OGM in leukemia. Her work has demonstrated that OGM can uniquely identify clinically significant structural variants in a substantial proportion of cases, including genomic alterations associated with prognosis and prediction of patient outcomes that may not be fully resolved using conventional cytogenetic approaches.
